Earth Gay SF 2015 Recap

On Saturday, May 16th the OUT4S Bay Area Socials Team facilitated the first-ever EarthGay in San Francisco! With our partnering organization, Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF), we convened nearly 30 volunteers to plant nearly 30 trees in San Francisco’s Noe Valley neighborhood.

FUF provided breakfast and coffee to the volunteers who arrived in the neighborhood at 9am that Saturday morning. After a few words from the Executive Director, the group split into teams of five to plant about five trees each in various parts of the neighborhood. Homeowners purchased the trees in advance and even came out to help plant them! OUT4S was lucky enough to team up with’s LGBTA group, OutForce, to help increase the visibility of local queer-identified folks working to green San Francisco.

Everyone was in good spirits, despite the physical labor that accompanied planting almost 30 trees on a foggy SF morning. The event was well-organized and didn’t leave a lot of time for standing around and waiting for direction, which is a common occurrence with some volunteer events. Given the new friends we made and the successful tree-planting, OUT4S is proud of our first EarthGay in San Francisco! We look forward to working more with FUF, OutForce and other social and environmentally conscious queers and allies to further our mission of activating LGBTQ communities toward social and environmental action!

The Bay Area Social Team is planning a pre-pride picnic next month to convene other like-minded individuals amidst the backdrop of our beautiful and iconic Golden Gate Park.
